Business Analyst
Department: Development
Status: Full-time, Exempt
As a member of the Development Team, the Business Analyst (BA) is responsible for gathering the requirements from the business, translating those requirements into functional requirements, and validating that the ultimate solution fulfills the business requirements. The BA will facilitate requirements gathering sessions with the business as well as requirements walk-throughs with the development team. Experience in the benefits industry (preferably Health & Welfare) is strongly desired.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Elicit business requirements using interviews, document analysis, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, business analysis, and/or task and workflow analysis
- Liaise with a variety of internal and external end-users as well as Business Development, Sales, and Marketing teams
- Facilitate information gathering sessions with subject matter experts
- Create logical, comprehensive and innovative solutions to business problems
- Identify options for potential solutions and assess them for both technical and business suitability and feasibility
- Translate business requirements into functional requirements
- Document and analyze required information and data
- Facilitates sessions with end-users to validate the functional design of solutions
- Communicate needed changes to development team; facilitate meetings to review business and functional requirements
- Represent the interests of the user community in the technical design review process
- Define test conditions
- Develop accurate and complete test plans
- Conducts testing according to plan
- Identify and document system deficiencies and recommend solutions
- Write/Maintain user documentation, manuals and application release notes
- Train the training team on new systems and enhancements
- Serve as sole BA on small to mid-size projects
- Assist in the development and enforcement of project deadlines and schedules
- Provide first tier of production support of proprietary systems
- Keep up to date with technical as well as industry-related developments
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors degree or related experience in HR, Information Systems/Computer Science or Math
- 3+ years demonstrated business analyst experience on software development projects, complex projects in the benefits industry (preferably Health & Welfare), or other related experience
- Experience with business requirements gathering, definition and documentation techniques
- Experience in documenting functional and/or technical specifications
- Proactive, creative problem solver with strong analytical skills
- Experience in working collaboratively and building teams
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Excellent follow through and detail orientation skills
- Proven ability to multi-task
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite
- Health & Welfare enrollment experience strongly desired
- Working knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Access, SQL Server and/or SQL
- Experience in data manipulation
