BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The primary role of the Senior Underwriter is to work with the Account Teams, exercising discretion and independent judgment, providing financial analysis and utilizing modeling tools to evaluate benefit programs and their impact on overall business objectives, including the management and control of client risks and losses.Â
This role includes the additional responsibility of providing guidance and mentoring to the Underwriters and Underwriting Associates.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Financial and risk analysis services for consulting clients
- Renewal validation, analysis and negotiation
- Manage clients’ benefits marketing process: data acquisition, RFP preparation, vendor question resolution, proposal review and analysis, client exhibit preparation and finding presentations
- Plan change valuations
- Reserve calculations
- Experience monitoring, budget calculation, and other on-going reviews
- Employee contribution modeling and strategy
- Utilization and experience reporting
- Organize file activity
- Prospective client data analysis and presentations
- Conduct special underwriting projects
- Assist in development of “best practices” for underwriting
- Develop and present underwriting training programs
- Mentor less experience staff members
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- A minimum of 8 years Underwriting experience in Benefits Brokerage/Consulting/Insurance industry preferred.

- Excellent troubleshooting, decision making and problem solving skills;
- Solid interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to work well independently and as a team member;

- Ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines;
- Ability to follow through on and successfully execute tasks while adhering to specified quality standards;
- Demonstrated ability to provide superior customer service and maintain positive relationships with client contacts;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Word (intermediate), Excel (intermediate) and Access (entry);
- Proficiency in use of PC such as keyboard skills and electronic folder/file organization and management;
- Aptitude for learning internal systems, applications and internal work flow of the department;
- Must be able to effectively interact and deal with people at all levels inside and outside of the company.

WORK LOCATION AND HOURS:
- Work is typically performed either on site at Trion’s office, or at various customer/Trion locations as required.
- Must be able to work overtime during peak periods.
