Reporting Relationships
The Underwriting Intern will report to the Underwriting Manager. He/she will work to support all our “large-market” consulting division initiatives. The selected candidate will be responsible for the development and execution of projects and will help support our internal technical needs and external client needs.
Summary of Responsibilities
The Underwriting Intern must be interested in learning how to evaluate financial proposals from the ground up. They must have the insight and initiative to take concepts and ideas from the infancy stage through final implementation and execution. This position will help to support key market segments and prospect opportunities via data collection and underwriting analysis. This individual must have a basic understanding of health and welfare benefits, be confident and resourceful.

General position overview
- The primary role of the Underwriting Intern is to maintain efficient and accurate workflow within the Underwriting unit and provide support to the Underwriting team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Pre-renewal analysis and gathering of pertinent underwriting information for account specific projects.
- Develops information and recommendations, based on the account analysis that will be used as the basis for the renewal strategy.
- Determines pricing strategy in conjunction with lead underwriter.
- Coordinates the renewal process for the lead underwriter.
- Reviews submission information with the lead underwriter.
- Build and maintain models to assist in the economic analysis of market alternatives.
- Analyzes and coordinates the new business and renewal quoting process for the team.
- Organize file activity
- Other related duties as assigned.
Specific project overview
- Underwriting Tools – learn about various resources to assist in the Underwriting Process
- Underwriting Techniques – exposure to various funding alternatives and the cost implications to employer groups
- Budget Projections – prepare exhibits and illustrations used to develop various financial strategies for employer groups

Qualifications
- Candidate must demonstrate high level of integrity, common sense, and professional maturity.
- Must be a Risk Management and Insurance major or related field, and have knowledge of basic health and welfare principles.

This position requires the selected candidate to work at Trionâ„¢ approximately 13 to 20 hours a week.
