DEPENDENT CARE REIMBURSEMENT ACCOUNT / FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT
Often referred to as a Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account or Dependent Care FSA , this account allows employees to use pre-tax dollars to pay for eligible Child and/or Adult Dependent Care expenses incurred so that an employee or their spouse can work, seek employment, or go to school full time. A Dependent Care FSA gives employees the freedom to take advantage of pre-tax dollars, up to $5000, to alleviate some of the burden of dependent care expenses. Unlike the health care reimbursement account, only the amount that has been contributed to date can be reimbursed to participants
through the dependent care FSA.
Eligible Dependent Care Reimbursement Expenses
Dependent Care Reimbursement Accounts cover eligible expenses similar to those that qualify for the IRS dependent care tax credit such as:
- Babysitting, provided by someone other than a dependent
- Day care, day camps, nursery school, or other outside dependent or child care services
- Elder care for dependents who live with you
